Space of Urgency is a Berlin-based international platform that develops strategic approaches to support self-organised communities in establishing and retaining independent spaces for non-dominant culture. They envision a future where independent cultural spaces and their communities in urgency are self-reliant, both in rural and urban environments, even when political support is non-existent.

As a unifying metaphor – Space of Urgency draws immediate attention to the precarious position of independent cultural spaces. They often perform community-based research, trust-building engagement, peer-to-peer exchange, sound-system interventions, spatial analysis, platform development, and community calls, as well as creating new digital media and online tools. All this contributes to a growing set of tools, approaches and knowledge aimed to enable environments for community organisation, counter contentious political-ideological narratives and guide policy and bureaucratic reform.
