Chisenhale Gallery is a London-based gallery originally founded by artists which commissions and produces contemporary art, publish books and online material, and actively engages in Social Practice projects.
Their commissions programme supports international and UK-based artists to pursue new directions and produce their most ambitious work to date. Over one-to-two years, they work closely with each artist through concept and research, to production and presentation. Combining extensive research and sustained curatorial engagement, the programme reflects an inspiring and challenging range of perspectives and art forms. They produce three to four new commissions each year and, as part of the process, a series of talks and events is programmed with each artist.
Chisenhale Gallery has a long history of creating books and printed matter that reaches back almost 40 years. Their approach to publishing centres their work with artists. The programme thinks critically about the ways artistic practice is distributed and accessed, and creates moments of sharing across their programmes.
Their Social Practice programme supports artists to create new work through collaborative processes. Much like the commissions programme, they aim to incubate new ideas about the role of art in the life of a community.
