Bolo’bolo is a collectively run Cape Town based libertarian publisher on African counterculture. They host the Anarchist Winter School and the annual Cape Town Anarchist Bookfair. They also occasionally screen documentaries via their Unblinking Eye Film Club.
Their publishing project grew out of the Bolo’bolo infoshop and vegan coffee house, which they ran collectively for two years distributing materials related to radical politics, grassroots environmentalism, animal rights, veganism, LGBTQIA issues, counterculture, cutting-edge philosophy and black consciousness.
They publish a variety of titles, including several books, a ton of zines and their currently hibernating anarchist newspaper, Incendiary Times. These are available at a number of bookshops in Cape Town and Johannesburg.
Bolo’Bolo’s name belongs to one of the most significant anti-capitalist social utopian texts of the late 20th century. It was written by Hans Widmer and it first appeared in German in 1983 with an English edition the following year.
